CRIS RIVAS

Cris Rivas makes figurative ceramic sculptures and, occasionally, a thrown vessel. Cris enjoys sculpting faces in the style of magic realism and surrealism. She uses color and texture to create complex surfaces and to layer meaning onto her pieces.

Cris studied fine art at the Kansas City Art Institute, City College of San Francisco, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the School of Museum of Fine Arts - Boston.

Cris grew up sneaking her dad's MAD magazines and reading her church's Jack Chick Biblical tracts. Cartooning is in her DNA and it comes through in her sculptures.

Cris and her family moved to Indianapolis in 2013 and live in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood.
